Born in Mexico, Luis grew up in the United States, or more specifically, the former Republic of Texas. For the last seven years he has called Shanghai home. He holds a degree in East Asian Studies from Princeton University, and speaks English, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish fluently, as well as spotty French. His imitation of a British accent is, by his own reckoning, "spot on."
Luis writes, directs, and edits films, videos, documentaries, and commercial projects. He has a feature script, Furnaces, in development, and directed Furnaces: Act One, its short film adaptation. Luis directed the documentary shorts Shanghai Memorial, The Tour, Holdem China, Cotton, Up from the Underground and most recently Human Flesh Search Engine. He is currently collaborating with Mark Schoellkopf on the feature-length script The Phantom Ship (working title).
He has done video work for clients including Intel, ECCO, Nike, General Motors, Weber Shandwick, Honeywell, ArvinMeritor, Shanghai Weekly, Touch Media, Caterpillar, Medicom, Shanghaiist.com, and Club G Plus.
Luis is an Apple Certified Pro in Final Cut Pro and an experienced user of Motion.
